If you’re planning on backpacking through Australia, then you will probably be trying to keep your budget in check. There are a lot of Australia backpacking tips for traveling in Sydney cheaply. It may be hard to believe that in such a cosmopolitan city it would be possible to see the city cheaply. Yet you can, while still having tons of fun and seeing all the main sites and attractions.
There are several cheap attractions in Sydney, some of which include the most famous landmarks and sights. This includes the Sydney Opera House and The Docks, the cultural heritage center of Sydney. Both are virtually free to view, and fairly cheap if you want to take advantage of the tours and other attractions that are available at both sites while backpacking Sydney. The Docks is one of the first inhabited parts of Australia and was known for its gangs, convicts, whalers, and prostitutes. In the 1970’s the area was redeveloped into a historic tourist site due to its old buildings, and heritage.
While visiting the Opera House, why not stay around Sydney Harbor to experience all it has to offer? The harbor has a 240km shoreline and offers just about every outdoor activity you could think of. You also have the option of touring the area via ferry, jet cart, water taxi, or any other boat and sail around. The area around the harbor makes up Sydney Harbor National Park where activities include walking trails and historical sites. There are also islands in the park area that you can take tours of.
Chinatown is great to visit during the Chinese New Year, but makes for a worthwhile trip virtually any time of year. The area is lined with archways and lanterns and offers a great authentic feel as well as delicious food. Australia’s biggest restaurant, Kam Fook, is also located within Chinatown and is worth a taste.
